LAMDA ACTING AND MUSICAL THEATRE

Scales and Tales provides bespoke LAMDA specific clubs and 1-2-1 sessions with the aim of providing the students with the skills required to achieve strong results in LAMDA examinations.

LAMDA WITH A DIFFERENCE

A unique LAMDA acting club for mixed ages from years 2-11, (6 to 16 years),
specialising in group LAMDA acting exams.

SKILLS LEARNT:

  • Self tape work, monologues, confidence building exercises and relaxation techniques.

  • Spatial awareness, projection, articulation, breathing from the diaphragm, memorising and characterisation and opportunities to perform in local theatres like Esher Theatre.

  • Groups specialise in LAMDA group material for their exams. Pupils are given scripts or poems to work and taught correct diction, breathing techniques, spatial awareness, stage direction and more. Children will be entered for LAMDA exams at Shrewsbury House School. Scope for individual exams can be possible too.

  • Using a sound booth and recording over film clips, radio, adverts and animation.

LAMDA MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical Theatre Classes for mixed ages from years 1-11, (5 to 16 years),
specialising in group LAMDA musical theatre exams.

SKILLS LEARNT:

  • Stretching and relaxation techniques for the voice and body. Focus on breathing from the diaphragm, vocal control and range, diction, clarity and tonality.

  • Structured choregraphed routines using step led movement and repetition. Focus will be on coordination, balance, focus, spatial awareness and rhythm.

    Every piece is overseen and created by our Creative Director Charley Maclaren.

  • The musical theatre pieces are usually taught from the piano, but we also use pre-recorded backing tracks. Material used from Matilda, Annie, Wicked, Wizard of Oz, Once on an Island, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Les Misérables, School of Rock and many more shows. Focusing on pitch, dynamics, voice control, breathing techniques, articulation, clarity and characterisation.

  • Musical Theatre LAMDA Group exams combine one or two musical theatre singing pieces with a choregraphed dance/movement and a script.

    Children learn how to project, act and sing through movement and dance and performance. Emphasis will be on tone, diction, focus, characterisation, dynamics, emotion, spatial awareness, rhythm and movement.

    Children will be entered for LAMDA exams at Shrewsbury House School.

LAMDA ACTING CLUB

A unique LAMDA acting club for mixed ages from years Years 3-6 (ages 7-11)
specialising in solo/duologue acting and verse and prose exams.

SKILLS LEARNT:

  • To increase confidence, team work, having fun and letting ourselves go, relaxation and trust.

  • Tapping into each child’s creativity by structured and unstructured improvisational games and tasks. Increasing confidence, team building and imagination skills.

  • Learners develop many skills, from speaking clearly and using voice projection, to improving memorisation and building an understanding of poetry and prose which supports studies in English literature.

  • Learners develop their vocal, physical and interpretive skills while they delve into characters and explore the background of dramatic texts. Alongside producing authentic performances of their chosen scenes, they also gain an understanding of the context and characters within them.

  • Solo and duologue acting and verse and prose exams. Pupils are given scripts or poems to work on for their exam and taught correct diction, breathing techniques, spatial awareness, staging direction and more. Children will be entered for LAMDA exams at Shrewsbury House School.
