Teaching children music, singing and drama is something
we love!

Enabling children to flourish and gain confidence is at the heart of everything we do.

Because of her decades of professional experience across different industry sectors Kelly wanted to offer the community affordable, inspiring, and dynamic classes to suit every child, enabling them to flourish and gain confidence whilst having fun in a safe and caring environment.

Our Story

From teacher to entrepreneur

Born and raised in the UK, Kelly Hart began her career as a music teacher in her early twenties, earning her ABRSM qualifications. She quickly rose through the ranks to become Head of Music and Drama at Greenfield Prep School, having taught at respected institutions including Shrewsbury House Prep School, Woodcote House, Manor House Girls School, Hinchley Wood Secondary School, and Asquith Nursery and Reception. Today, Kelly is Head of Music at Weston Green School in Thames Ditton.

Alongside teaching, Kelly has enjoyed a thriving performance career. As a singer and pianist, she has performed at prestigious venues including The Savoy Hotel, The Royal Lancaster Hotel, Wentworth Golf Club, The Cellar Door at The Strand, Café Royal, and many more.

Kelly has always loved working with children through music, and in her late 30s, she felt a calling to give back more deeply to her community. With this passion, Scales & Tales was born—a business dedicated to bringing high-quality music, drama, and dance experiences to children in schools. She quickly expanded the initiative, building a team of talented teachers trained both in the arts and education.

Scales & Tales now operates in a growing number of schools across Surrey and Kingston Upon Thames, inspiring hundreds of children each week through creative and engaging learning experiences. The business continues to evolve, offering a broad and exciting range of services to local schools and families.

A Personal Journey

Kelly’s path hasn’t been without its challenges. At just 12 years old, she lost her father in a tragic hotel fire while on holiday with her family. This life-altering experience left a deep mark, but it was through music—particularly the piano—that she found solace, expression, and healing.

Music became her refuge and strength during the most difficult time of her life. It’s this transformative power of music that Kelly now wants to share with children who may be navigating their own difficult journeys. Scales & Tales is not just about performance—it's about connection, confidence, and care.

Life today

When she's not teaching or running Scales & Tales, Kelly loves spending time at the theatre or attending live music events. She’s passionate about travel, long walks, and quality time with her husband and children. A fitness enthusiast, she also enjoys cycling, dance classes, going to the gym, and lifting weights.

My philosophy

"My teaching style is fun and energetic. I believe in being authentic, kind, and inspiring—whether I'm in a classroom or running a business. Providing great service and delivering high-quality teaching are at the heart of everything I do. Music gave me strength as a child, and today, I’m committed to giving that same sense of joy and empowerment to the children I work with."
