A Round of Applause for Our LAMDA and Musical Theatre Stars!
We are bursting with pride as we celebrate the incredible achievements of our talented young performers who recently took part in their LAMDA and Musical Theatre exams. This term, students from Hinchley Wood, Rowan, Hill and Brae, Shrewsbury House, Cranmere, and Long Ditton St Mary’s wowed us with their dedication, creativity, and passion for performance.
From heartfelt monologues to dynamic duologues, and from expressive verse and prose to full-blown musical numbers, our students rose to the occasion with confidence and flair. It’s no small feat to stand in front of an examiner and perform, but each child brought their own unique spark to the stage.

Healing Through Rhythm: Childhood Trauma
Childhood trauma casts long shadows. For children who have experienced abuse, neglect, violence, or the loss of a loved one, the world can feel unsafe and unpredictable. These early, deeply unsettling experiences often manifest in anxiety, anger, withdrawal, and difficulty trusting others. But alongside traditional therapies, there is a powerful trio that is making a quiet yet profound difference in many young lives: music, drama, and dance.

Why We Love LAMDA: Building Confidence Through Performance
At Scales & Tales, we’re proud to offer our students the opportunity to take part in LAMDA exams – a valuable, enriching experience that helps children grow in confidence, communication, and creativity.

Rocking Weston Green: A Morning to Remember!
The air was electric at Weston Green’s first-ever rock concert, where two incredible bands, Summer of ‘69 and Smoke on the Water, took to the stage and delivered performances to the children and parents. The children were 6 to 9 years old in this group
From the moment the first guitar riff echoed the audience knew they were in for a great concert. Summer of ‘69 kicked things off with a high-energy set, bringing the nostalgic sounds of classic rock to life.
Then came Smoke on the Water, a solid performance. Great vocals and the timing and very together. They created a rock atmosphere with all the audience clapping along. The children were 9 to11 years old in this group
This was a celebration of passion, energy, and coming together as a group.
One thing was certain: Weston Green had just witnessed the birth of a new musical tradition.

Why Is Music So Good for Kids Learning and Development
Music is a powerful tool for children’s development. It enhances memory, improves concentration, and fosters creativity. Whether through singing, playing an instrument, or simply listening, music engages multiple areas of the brain, making learning more effective and enjoyable.
Studies show that children who engage in music tend to have better language skills, improved mathematical abilities, and stronger social interactions. Rhythm and melody help with pattern recognition, while group music activities teach teamwork and patience. Plus, music provides a fun and stress-free way to learn!
Incorporating music into education—whether through songs for memorisation, learning an instrument, or movement-based musical activities—helps children retain information and develop essential life skills. So, if you want to boost your child’s learning, turn up the tunes and let the rhythm lead the way!

Join Lucy's Final Class at Enchanted Child
Celebrating a Sweet Goodbye: Honoring Growth and Musical Beginnings

The Lasting Magic of Music: Celebrating a Legacy of Joy and Connection
For years, a special kind of magic has filled the rooms of early childhood music programs across Thames Ditton, touching the lives of families and shaping the way little ones experience the world. One beloved educator, whose final class marks the end of an era, has been at the heart of this musical journey—bringing warmth, creativity, and deep understanding to every session. Her approach went beyond songs and rhythms; she crafted immersive experiences where infants and toddlers explored sound, movement, and expression in ways that felt both natural and transformative.
Her classes were more than entertainment—they were developmental milestones in motion. Through call-and-response melodies, sensory-rich instrument play, and imaginative storytelling, she nurtured listening skills, motor coordination, and emotional bonding between caregivers and children. Parents quickly noticed how their little ones began to respond to musical cues, anticipate rhythms, and express emotions with greater confidence.
What truly set her apart was her ability to make every family feel seen. She created a consistent yet flexible environment where spontaneous giggles, wobbly dances, and quiet moments of focus were all celebrated. As her final class approaches, the ripple effect of her work remains: children who have grown more attentive, expressive, and connected—thanks to the joy of music, expertly guided.
Embracing the Next Chapter in Early Childhood Music Education
As families in Thames Ditton continue to seek meaningful, development-focused activities for their little ones, a new chapter unfolds in the journey of early musical learning. With Kelly and the dedicated team stepping forward, parents can expect a seamless evolution of the trusted toddler music class experience—rooted in creativity, guided by child development principles, and inspired by joyful exploration. This transition represents more than just a change in facilitators; it's an opportunity to refresh and expand how music nurtures growing minds.
A strong children’s music program thrives on consistency, rhythm, and emotional safety—elements that remain at the heart of this new phase. Caregivers can look forward to the same beloved structure: theme-based weekly sessions, instrument play, movement games, and call-and-response singing—all designed to support language, motor skills, and social-emotional growth. New enhancements include carefully curated song rotations and sensory-rich activities that respond to how toddlers learn best.
For parents exploring local options, here’s how to make the most of this transition:
Attend a trial session to observe the flow and energy
Engage with the new facilitators to understand their teaching philosophy
Continue reinforcing musical learning at home with simple rhythms and singing
This shift ensures that the magic of music continues to thrive in a familiar, welcoming space where every child feels seen, heard, and celebrated.
